Five Easy Ways to Build Healthy Lifestyle Habits
It’s not as hard or as boring as you may think to change your behaviors and live your best, healthiest life. It’s not just changing what you do, it’s changing your mindset. Here are five simple ways to invest in your health.
1.) Move More
• Stretch before you get out of bed. It builds flexibility, boosts your mood, improves circulation, and reduces tension.
• Whenever you park your car, find a space far away from the door instead of as close as you can get. Incorporate more steps into your daily routine.
• Consider one-on-one or phone meetings, walking around your building or in the parking lot instead of in a conference room or sitting at your desk.
2.) Reduce Stress
• Spend time in nature and be sure to appreciate the colors, textures, smells, and sounds.
• Take time regularly during the day to breathe deeply and exhale slowly.
• Share positivity by showing genuine gratitude toward others.
• Jot down your thoughts. If journaling sounds overwhelming, bullet points are a great alternative. Sometimes writing something down is all you need to do to stop thinking about it anymore.
3.) Sleep Better
• Limit caffeine and alcohol, especially closer to bedtime.
• Plan at least 30 minutes of downtime with no screens before you go to bed.
• Wake and go to bed around the same time every day when possible.
• Sleep in a cool, dark, quiet room.
You’ve heard those tips many times before; now follow them and feel more rested.
4.) Eat Well
• Don’t make cooking a chore. Make it fun with new dishes that are easy to prepare and your favorite playlist in the background.
• Add more vegetables to your recipes. If the casserole recipe calls for half a cup, try a cup. Go for it.
• Love pasta and bread? Try noodles made of zucchini or pizza crust made from cauliflower. You may be surprised how good it tastes.
• See something in the produce aisle you don’t recognize? Be adventurous and give it a try.
5.) Connect
• Check in regularly with family and friends. They are your support system, and you are theirs.
• Have a hobby or things that interest you? Find people to share them with.
• Join a professional or community organization with shared interests and experiences.
• Spend more time with humans than online.
• Taking time away from people is okay, but don’t isolate yourself. People need people.
Taking time to invest in your health and well-being with small daily habits can help you live your best life longer.
