Self-care for Mothers

Mom: Congratulations! You are doing a great job. Being a mother is hard work. With so many things to keep track of, please take a moment to focus on how you can take care of yourself.

Here are some simple tips to help keep you at the top of your motherhood game.

  • Ask for Help: You don't have to do it all. Look to your partner, family members, friends, or even paid help. Figure out what tasks they can help you with, and don't hesitate to say no to additional commitments that might overwhelm you.

  • Stay Organized: Use a planner, calendar, or to-do lists to keep track of appointments, school events, and family obligations. Plan for upcoming tasks to avoid last-minute rushes and stress. Prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance. Tackle the most time-consuming or least favorite tasks first to get them out of the way.

  • Sleep, Move, and Eat: Aim for a schedule that allows 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night. Get at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day—anything from brisk walking to dancing or yoga. Eat a balanced diet that includes lean proteins, low-fat dairy or alternatives, plenty of fruits and vegetables, and whole grains for sustained energy. Stay hydrated by drinking 6-8 cups of water throughout the day. Minimize your intake of sugary beverages, alcohol, and high-fat processed foods that can bring down your energy and mood.

  • Take time for YOU: Plan activities that bring you joy, relaxation, or a sense of personal fulfillment—a fitness class, a quiet coffee break with a good book, lunch with a friend, a hobby you enjoy, or even just uninterrupted time for rest and reflection. Protect these plans as you would any other important appointment.

Taking care of you makes it easier to take care of everyone else on your list.   You’ve got this!
