Bowen Health Furthers Commitment to Local Integrated Care Through Bremen Community Garden

Bowen Health, Indiana’s largest community mental health center and a nonprofit healthcare organization, is pleased to share the offering of a community garden at Bowen Health – Bremen, located at 1120 W South St., Bremen, IN 46506. As an organization that is proudly committed to caring for the whole person, the community garden is an option where residents of Bremen and surrounding areas can find fresh fruits and vegetables at no cost to them.
The Bowen Health – Bremen community garden is one of the three current community garden projects located throughout Bowen Health’s 22-county service area across northeast and central Indiana. As the organization continuously searches for ways to better support the needs of the communities it serves, Bowen Health worked with local partners to identify the need and desire for a community garden.
“This is something that was highly requested in the community,” said Kristi Cooper, Bowen Health Practice Administrator – Bremen. “We have such a wonderful and deep partnership with our school system and we’re always looking to see how we can be both of the community and for the community, which is a really great combination, and a community garden seemed like the next best fit.”
Free and open to anyone in Bremen and surrounding communities, the community garden gives the public a way to learn about gardening, connect with the outdoors, and enjoy moments of relaxation with simple gardening tasks, like harvesting ripe and ready produce.
“Once they are picked, they go into our lobby where there is a bowl for community members and patients to take. Having something that offers fresh fruits and fresh vegetables anytime anyone wants it is important to us. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to offer that tactile response of being able to get out in nature, to touch some grass, feel some plants, and pick some fruits and vegetables to take along with you,” Cooper mentioned.
The Bowen Health – Bremen community garden is completely free and open to anyone in the area, regardless of whether they receive services from Bowen Health.
